Alesis Monitor ONE MK II speaker

Alesis Monitor ONE MK II speaker

It didn’t take long to realize we had a hit on our hands. Just a few short months after its introduction, Alesis Monitor One Studio Reference Monitor was a winner of the prestigious TEC Award, and on its way to becoming one of the most popular near field speakers on the market.

The reason was as clear as its own crisp flawless sound, super-flat wide frequency range, clear imaging, high-power handling and excellent bass transient response. These features add up to a unique ability to create incredibly accurate mixes that translate perfectly to every playback system.

Monitor One became an instant favorite among professional engineers and studio owners, as well as earning it a place in countless home studios.

Obviously, there was only one thing left to do. Make it even better.

Better design, for improved performance.

With such a successful platform to build on, Alesis’ engineers wisely settled for incremental improvements designed to coax even better performance from our monitors.

They started with a new 6.5” polypropylene low-frequency driver for tighter, more accurate bass response. Then matched it with a newly redesigned, 1” pure silk-dome, high-frequency transducer for even smoother, more accurate detail and response, and a broader sound stage.

They improved the overall frequency response (changing from 45 Hz – 18 kHz, to 45 Hz – 20 kHz +/- 3 dB) and coupled it with more efficient power handling. They also provided magnetic shielding to allow use in close proximity to video and computer monitors.

Surface improvements that go more than skin deep.

Perfectionists that they are, however, our engineers didn’t just settle for tinkering under the hood. The cabinet was redesigned for a new and more attractive professional finish, and are now mirror image; left/right pair for symmetrical speaker placement.

But more than just cosmetic improvements, the new Monitor One also features radiused edges for reduced edge diffraction, along with improved porting – thanks to the next–generation of our exclusive SuperPort venting technology – to eliminate the “choking” effect of smaller, shorter ports. The result is a low-frequency response which extends well below comparable near field monitors.

It all adds up to a spectacular next-generation of a popular standard - the new state-of-the-art in affordable, high-quality studio monitors.

Alesis M1 Active MK II speaker

Alesis M1 Active MK II speaker

By combining our expertise in reference monitor design with our proven track record in studio amplification, Alesis' new M1 Active™ Biamplified Reference Monitor offers the incredibly accurate response that perfectly translates to every playback system. Its internal active crossover and custom-designed dual amplifiers ensure an extremely consistent performance under a variety of different studio conditions and program material. The result is a broad, extremely flat frequency response, clear imaging with a wide sweet spot, high power handling and detailed high- and mid-frequency response that only a professional powered monitor can deliver.

Custom Drivers Designed For Active Monitoring

The M1 Active's woofer and tweeter were specifically designed for the most linear, low distortion response in powered monitoring applications. Its 6.5" woofer cone is formulated from non-woven carbon fiber. It's a material that has been used for the skins of combat aircraft wings, since it offers high tensile strength and low weight. In fact, carbon fiber is 25% lighter than polypropylene (the most common driver material) and hence provides quicker transient response in the low frequency range for superb bass response as well as a vast improvement in the detail of critical upper-mid frequencies. The M1 Active's 1" tweeter dome is made of pure silk, which offers a natural response that aids in preventing ear fatigue during long mix sessions. It also features an internal pole piece mounted phasing plug and is ferrofluid cooled to maintain the best balance of transient response to power handling.

Active Bi-Amplifiers and Electronic Crossovers

Two audiophile-quality amplifiers-a 75 watt woofer amp and a 25 watt tweeter amp-were developed for the M1 Active, along with 4th order high- and low-pass electronic crossover filters. The crossover point was carefully chosen at a low 2 kHz, and produces an extremely wide dispersion zone as well as low midrange coloration. Also, the special time alignment circuitry that's been added to the tweeter section of this crossover allows the output of frequencies from the high and low drivers to occur in perfect synchronization, avoiding the time smear that's typical in less advanced powered speakers.

Attractive Cabinet Design with Dual Ports and Offset Tweeter

In developing the M1 Active, the Alesis engineering team discovered that dual font-facing ports provided the fastest, most coherent and extended low frequency augmentation. Also, the unique offset design of the high frequency driver allows for the flattest frequency and power response in a speaker that offers such wide dispersion. The M1 Active's attractive mirror-imaged, charcoal- toned cabinet and magnetically-shielded drivers allow for placement in close proximity with computer or video monitors, and offers the added benefit of blending beautifully into your studio's decor without being obtrusive. They may be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical placement to best fit your studio's requirements.

The Alesis M1 Active™

With the lineage of our TEC Award-winning Monitor Onet Studio Reference Monitor, Alesis speakers have already become a standard in project and professional studios around the world. If you're looking for the same great accuracy and detailed response in a powered system that's truly affordable, the answer is clear: the new M1 Active from Alesis.

Linear audio reproduction and USB studio interface

M1Active 520 USB is a studio monitoring system designed for professional studio use with an internal digital-audio interface. M1Active 520 USB is a pair of active, bi-amplified, two-way reference monitors that play from 20,000 Hz all the way down to 56 Hz to cover nearly all frequencies audible to human ears. You can take USB digital signal out of your computer via USB and input it to M1Active 520 USB for low-noise, low-distortion performance. Priced attractively for any studio's budget, M1Active 520 USB perform with linearity, clarity, and neutrality typically reserved for monitors that cost much more.

REFERENCE MONITORING
We built M1Active 520USB around our popular five-inch polypropylene low-frequency driver for full, smooth response in the low end and our one-inch silk dome high-frequency driver for absolute clarity in the highs. Our custom crossover avoids the crucial vocal midrange, ensuring that your mixes sound the way you recorded them.

The low-resonance bass reflex cabinet features radiussed edges to reduce edge diffraction and a tuned port for bass extension. A bass boost switch offers low-frequency enhancement to further accommodate for room conditions requiring a little more output in the low end.

PROFESSIONAL MONITORING OPTIONS
When you reach for the convenient front panel volume control, you can be confident that the power you need will be there with M1Active 520 USB's bi-amplified design delivering 30W per speaker. Like the rest of the M1Active series, M1Active 520 USB are magnetically shielded, so there's never an issue of placement near computer screen, LCDs, or hard drives.

The front-panel stereo 1/4" headphone output mutes the loudspeakers when connected. When you connect headphones, the main volume control automatically switches to controlling the headphone output.

M1Active 520 USB feature a large, front-panel, bi-color indicator that indicates presence of signal in blue and clipping in red for instant feedback on system status.

EXTENSIVE I/O
Professional quality analog input jacks are located on the rear. Two balanced-1/4" inputs enable engineers to connect a stereo source or two mono sources. For convenient recordings, simply connect the stereo output of a mixer. You can create complete recordings with no additional audio interface!

The speakers are interconnected using a standard XLR cable for secure, professional connection. For worldwide operation, M1Active 520 USB features a voltage-switchable power supply.

USB DIGITAL AUDIO INTERFACE
In addition to their capabilities as traditional monitor loudspeakers, M1Active 520 USB monitors contain a USB audio interface. Connected audio sources such as mic preamps and instruments can be recorded directly into your computer at 16-bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz. Simply plug the USB cable into your computer. No special drivers required. And when it's time to listen back to your mixes, that same USB cable sends 16-bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz, stereo audio from computer to your M1Active 520 USBs. No more complicated interfaces and messy cable tangles.
